NHS England launches £8m campaign to bring in new talent to the service

The NHS will launch an £8 million campaign, funded by NHS England and the Department of Health and Social Care, to highlight the vast range of opportunities available in the NHS for potential new recruits.

The programme will initially focus on nursing: in May nurses across the country complained about “scandalous and cruel” staff gaps pushing them into new careers.

Head of analysis at NHS Providers, Phillippa Hentsch, said: “Recruiting and retaining the right level of staff is now the biggest issue for NHS trusts. There are around 36,000 nursing vacancies alone so national action and funding for this recruitment drive is very welcome.

“Nurses are an extremely valuable part of the NHS workforce. We are pleased that the Department of Health and Social Care is working with NHS England to promote the variety of nursing careers and supporting trusts by highlighting why the NHS is a great place to work for nurses.”
