RCPCH launches child safeguarding guidance
New guidance has been published to help paediatricians through child protection cases.
‘The Child Protection Companion’, launched by the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health (RCPCH) supports doctors on examination and identification of children with non-accidental injuries.
The guidance also covers referral and court proceedings, paediatricians responsibilities, good practice recommendations, giving evidence, training and support.
Dr Ian Maconochie, registrar at the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health, said:
“Safeguarding continues to be one of the most challenging aspects of a paediatrician’s job and we have to make sure they are fully competent and feel confident to approach child protection work.
“The Companion should be the first port of call for paediatricians who have to deal with these kind of challenging issues every day.”
