Charity-run hospice earns ‘Outstanding’ rating from CQC
Royal Trinity Hospice, a charity-run hospice in the London borough of Lambeth, has been awarded an ‘Outstanding’ rating following an inspection by the Care Quality Commission (CQC).
Following the inspection in May 2019, the hospice was rated ‘Outstanding’ for being caring, responsive and well-led. It earned a ‘Good’ rating for being safe and effective.
The 28-bed hospice offers free care to people in a large area of central and southwest London, providing care to people in their own homes through their community teams, as well as their on-site patients.
During the CQC visit, inspectors observed the inpatient unit, day therapy services and attended two home visits with a member of the specialist palliative care community nursing team.
Inspectors spoke with a range of staff and found that they cared for patients with compassion. Staff were also found to always communicate with patients about their care and treatment in a way they could understand.
Feedback to the CQC inspectors from patients and those close to them confirmed staff treated them well and with kindness, as well as involving them in decisions about their care and treatment.
Dr Nigel Acheson, deputy chief inspector of hospitals (London and South), said: “I am always delighted when a provider achieves an Outstanding overall rating. The staff and leadership team at Royal Trinity Hospice deserve fulsome praise for the service they provide.”
