Care closer to home for Corby
A new Urgent Care Centre has been officially opened in Northamptonshire by Sir Bruce Keogh, medical director of the NHS.
The centre, located in Corby, was commissioned by NHS Northamptonshire and NHS Corby Clinical Commissioning Group. Architect Maber designed the new centre.
The £2.9m project took 11 months to construct and has achieved BREEAM ‘Very Good’ status for its sustainable design and construction.
The facility will allow more people to be treated nearer to home, and will provide diagnostic services including x-rays and ultrasounds.
Paul East, associate director at Maber, said: “It has been a challenge, but we have been able to prove that we can deliver these difficult schemes. We were working on a live site with the neighbouring surgery open throughout, and dealing with multiple partners.
“We have tried to design something that doesn’t have a clinical feel so that it is a welcoming space while meeting the strict technical memorandums and guidance for healthcare projects.”
