NHS in crisis
Source: Valerie John-Charles
The NHS is being managed into crisis. I have over 25 years experience and now work in the primary care field. Nurses have been instrumental in making the changes for primary care but do not get recognised for this.
Parts of the NHS are being sold off to the lowest bidder with little or no consultation with staff. I am a nurse practitioner and have a high level of skills, knowledge and experience but would gladly take early retirement now – if offered! The hierarchy in the NHS is puzzling but we persist with the over-management incurring even greater debt!
Nurses should also beware – you will not be able to get a senior post within the so called NHS as I believe there will be a ceiling on what we can earn! I am not a martyr to nursing, but I am a professional and with my background and my skills I expect to be paid appropriately.
I agree with Karen; the morale is low, there is penny pinching on the ground, yet we see more and more waste – computers, buildings and reorganisations, management consultants (each producing their own portfolio of work – then they disappear and WE start all over again)! I am not against change, but sometimes wonder for whose benefit?
