Paramedic workforce crisis

If universities and governing bodies introduced more courses that allowed shortened courses for already skilled workers, for example nursing to midwifery or operating department practitioner to paramedic and vice versa, enabling roles to cross over, there may be an influx of enrolments!

I am just about to qualify as an Operating Department Practitioner and intend to practice, but have always loved elements of paramedic science, and they have very similar emergency medicine skills. Why not offer a post graduate crossover module?

I know of two or three young people (18 - 23) who would love to be paramedics. I have encouraged them to apply. The first question they are asked is do they hold a UK driving licence. If the answer is no they can go no further. Why? learning to drive is too expensive for many young people. surely they can commence training with a view of learning to drive over the duration of the course instead of excluding them from even being considered. Shortsighted I think

I've worked for the what was Sussex and is now South East Coast Ambulance Service, since 2001. The actual role is fantastic, however, the management are absolutely diabolical. Simply cannot continue working for them.
