Work begins on new £2.6m Emergency Treatment Centre in Dudley
Work to build a brand new £2.6m Emergency Treatment Centre at Russells Hall Hospital in Dudley has officially been kicked off this week.
The facility is being delivered in partnership with Dudley CCG and, when finished, will house urgent care services.
It will be constructed right next to the existing emergency department to give patients an improved single point of access and be a ‘one-stop shop’ for urgent emergency treatment.
Patients will no longer have as far to go for non-emergency care and staff will transition more smoothly as the two services will be right next to each other.
The new hospital building will house a new urgent care waiting area, eight urgent treatment rooms and a new emergency department waiting area.

“This £2.6m investment really is money well spent to improve urgent and emergency care for Dudley patients ahead of winter and is just one of a number of major projects to improve healthcare for our patients,” said Diane Wake, chief executive at the Dudley Group NHS FT.
“We’re also investing £3.5m in our state-of-the-art Imaging Suite at Guest Outpatient Centre and our electronic patient record Digital Trust project will see £32m invested over the next 10 years.”
Paul Bytheway, chief operating officer at the Dudley Group, added: “This new facility is fantastic news for Dudley, as better assessment by appropriate clinicians and less pressure on A&E supports reduced waiting times and a better experience for patients.”
The new building will likely be opened in November this year.
