Sheffield Children’s NHS FT is one step closer to opening the National Centre for Child Health Technology – a pioneering facility set to revolutionise paediatric healthcare across the UK and beyond.
Located at the Sheffield Olympic Legacy Park, the NCCHT will bring together healthcare professionals, researchers, and industry experts to develop cutting-edge technologies that improve the lives of children and young people. The centre is due to open in 2026, coinciding with the 150th anniversary of Sheffield Children’s and the 50th anniversary of Sheffield Children’s Hospital Charity.
To celebrate the latest milestone in construction, a steel signing ceremony was held, with children and young people invited to write their hopes for the future of healthcare on the building’s steel frame – symbolising the NCCHT’s mission to advance healthcare for children, with children.
The NCCHT is the result of long-standing partnerships with:
- University of Sheffield
- Sheffield Hallam University
- National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR)
- NHS and Sheffield City Council
- South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority
- Sheffield Olympic Legacy Park
Ruth Brown, Chief Executive at Sheffield Children’s NHS FT, commented:
“We are building on 150 years of Sheffield Children’s to lay a strong foundation for the next 150 years and beyond. I’m incredibly proud that we are working collaboratively – with the ambition that young people truly deserve – to create a world-leading research and technology centre that will help reimagine the future of children’s healthcare.
“Writing our vision and values into the very fabric of the building is a powerful moment – it shows our commitment to working in exciting new ways whilst staying true to the purpose and principles that have led us here.”

Delivered in partnership with Henry Boot Construction, the centre will serve as a hub for innovation in child health, supporting research into new treatments, technologies, and care models.
As construction progresses, further opportunities will be announced to bring together leading minds in child health, technology, and innovation, ensuring the NCCHT becomes a beacon of excellence in paediatric care.
