‘Celebration day’ on Friday to highlight success of NHS Change Day
Health and care staff across the country will celebrate their role in the success of NHS Change Day on Friday, to mark the biggest change improvement initiative ever seen in the NHS.
Friday 4 July falls one day before the 66th birthday of the NHS. NHS Change Day, which took place this year on 3 March, received over 800,000 pledges, smashing targets. NHS Change Day is supported and coordinated by NHS Improving Quality.
Some examples of pledges made include:
• Team members of the CCG at NHS South Cheshire and NHS Vale Royal made a joint pledge to look after their own health and wellbeing, so that they can do their best to look after others. They set up “Time to Talk” tea breaks to encourage staff away from their desks, giving them an opportunity to talk and relax.
• A member of staff at Calderstones Foundation NHS Trust suggested introducing an animal assisted therapy programme. It has proved very popular, as it brings everyday life closer for sick patients who can often feel isolated when in hospital.
• Staff came together at Sutton and Merton Community Services and created a ‘Walking in the shoes of patient’ pledge. They used NHS Change Day to better understand the patient / staff experience. Clinical teams completed routine activities they expect patients to undertake. By gaining a different perspective, the staff reflected on their learning and how it could impact and shape the future of their own practice.
The ‘Change Day Celebration’ will give more details on the pledges and progress made, via a 12-hour WebEx seminar. Anyone can join in through the live chat or just listen from 8am to 8pm
