GP IT contracting system to be extended
The GP Systems of Choice (GPSoC) arrangements are to be extended, the Health and Social Care Information Centre (HSCIC) has announced.
GPSoC has delivered the mechanism for contracting for GP clinical IT systems in GP practices since 2007, and now 81% of practices use a system provided through the framework.
GP IT systems allow the NHS to collect and share patient data and provide access to national services. Sponsored by NHS England, GPSoC has also been consulting on new contracting arrangements for the future.
The new framework will expand the number of suppliers involved and introduce improvements in how the systems of subsidiary suppliers interface with those of the principal GP clinical IT system suppliers.
A new GPSoC framework is dependent on approval from the Department of Health, the Cabinet Office and HM Treasury.
