UH Bristol NHS Foundation Trust retains ‘Outstanding’ rating from CQC

University Hospitals Bristol NHS Foundation Trust has once again been rated as ‘Outstanding’ by inspectors from the Care Quality Commission (CQC).

UH Bristol became the first trust in the country to go from ‘Requires Improvement’ directly to ‘Outstanding’ in 2017, and is now the first to do this and retain the top rating.

Only seven trusts in the country have been rated ‘Outstanding’ twice, and only three of those – UH Bristol included – are general acute trusts.

Robert Woolley, chief executive of UH Bristol, said: “I am absolutely delighted that the Trust has been rated Outstanding by the CQC for the second time in a row.

“Given that the CQC report follows UH Bristol recently being named as a top general acute Trust in the national inpatient survey for 2018, this clearly demonstrates that our staff are very special people, doing an exceptional job to provide the best possible care for those who need our services.

“I’m proud of each and every one of the UH Bristol team and thrilled that their hard work has been recognised.”

Inspectors for the CQC particularly highlighted staff’s commitment to patients, praising the way they demonstrated compassion in their caring.

The CQC also praised the culture of the organisation, observing how “the values and vision for the trust placed people who used services at University Hospitals Bristol at the centre” during their inspection.
