Cuts to mental health services exacerbating sector’s problems – MHF
Cuts to any services usually make service provision that bit harder and stressful for providers. However, when it comes to mental health – an area which in itself is stressful – the results could be catastrophic.
The Mental Health Foundation’s (MHF) director of development and delivery, Isabella Goldie, told us that government cuts to NHS mental health service providers are exacerbating problems in an already under-resourced sector.
We, at NHE, alongside MHF, would like to see more work to be done in preventing mental health issues across the course of a life, and would like to see further investment in evidence-based preventative approaches.
As Goldie reiterated: “Any compassionate society needs to ensure that our public services are available and fit for purpose when people are at their most vulnerable”.
