Women’s health hubs open, bringing menopause and reproductive health support closer to home

Women across Wales can now access improved menopause, contraception and menstrual health support in their local communities, as the Welsh Government confirms that a women’s health hub is now open in every health board area.

The rollout delivers on a key commitment in the Women’s Health Plan, which pledged to establish seven hubs by the end of March 2026. All hubs are designed around women’s lives, offering flexible access to specialist services either in person, across multiple local sites, or via online portals depending on local needs.

Each health board has established its hub using a community‑based model shaped directly by women’s feedback. Some hubs are already operating as pathfinder sites, including:

  • Ysbyty Cwm Cynon, Mountain Ash
  • Sexual Integrated Health Building, Aberystwyth
  • Maelfa Hub, Llanedeyrn, Cardiff
  • Llandudno Hospital
  • Nevill Hall Hospital, Abergavenny

Meanwhile, Powys and Swansea Bay University Health Board are running their hubs as online portals, signposting women to services and support in their area.

Some services will require referral, while others will be open access, ensuring that women can get the help they need in a way that fits their circumstances.

The opening of the hubs builds on significant progress since the Women’s Health Plan was published in December 2024. Across Wales:

  • GPs and healthcare workers have received extensive training on endometriosis and other women’s health conditions.
  • Services are being moved into communities to make care more accessible. For example, in Swansea Bay, uro‑gynaecology physiotherapy is now available through primary care, rather than hospital clinics.

The Plan sets out more than 60 actions across eight priority areas, informed by feedback from around 4,000 women, with the aim of ensuring women are listened to and their health needs understood.

Welsh First Minister Eluned Morgan said:

“Improving access to women’s health services is a top priority for me because so many women have told me how they wanted them improved. It’s a real landmark achievement of this Senedd that we now have a women’s health hub in every health board area across Wales.

“These hubs show that when we make a commitment, we make it happen. The hubs will make a real difference to women's healthcare.”

A new national women’s health website, launched on 16 March 2026, provides easy access to clinically verified information on a wide range of topics, including menopause, menstrual health, fertility and long‑term conditions. It also helps women understand how to access services through their local health board’s hub.

Each health board has received £300,000 this year to support development of its pathfinder hub. All hubs will undergo evaluation later in 2026 to ensure they are delivering improved access and better outcomes for women.
