Coventry and Warwickshire Partnership NHS Trust (CWPT) has officially taken over responsibility for specialist NHS inpatient mental health services for children and young people at Parkview in Birmingham, following a successful competitive tender process.
The service, which provides care for children and young people with complex mental health needs requiring inpatient treatment, was previously delivered by Birmingham Women's and Children's NHS Foundation Trust. The move places the service under the leadership of a specialist mental health provider with extensive experience in delivering care across mental health, learning disabilities and autism services.
The transition is designed to strengthen the quality and consistency of care available to young people across the Midlands, ensuring that patients continue to receive specialist support from a dedicated mental health trust.
CWPT brings a wealth of expertise through its multidisciplinary workforce, including psychiatrists, psychologists, nurses, therapists and specialist support staff. This breadth of experience enables the Trust to deliver holistic, person-centred care tailored to the individual needs of each young person.
A key element of the transition is the continuity of care for patients and families. Staff currently working at Parkview have transferred to CWPT under TUPE arrangements, meaning the same experienced professionals will continue to support young people throughout their treatment and recovery journey.
Throughout the process, CWPT worked closely with partner organisations, families and stakeholders to ensure a seamless transfer of services. The Trust says it will build on the strong foundations already established at Parkview while introducing further innovation and service improvements aligned with best practice in child and adolescent mental health care.
