NHS Supply Chain has appointed procurement and commercial management expert, Richard Evans, as its new commercial executive director.
Richard has two decades of experience across both the public and private sectors, and will spearhead the transformation of NHS Supply Chain’s commercial capabilities.
Richard’s job will be to focus on standardisation and simplification in order to create value and optimise patient care.
The last 18 months has seen significant change for NHS Supply Chain, with over 450 professionals from eight outsourced procurement teams being brought in house.
Richard will preside over the continued evolution of NHS Supply Chain and will prioritise:
- Reducing complexity
- Growing capabilities
- Employing best practice
National Health Executive is set to bring together leaders and policymakers from across the health sector for an online conference dedicated to procurement, where viewers will learn more about procurement reform, supply chain resistance, sustainability in procurement, and more.
“It is fantastic to join NHS Supply Chain at such an important time of change,” said Richard.
“I am excited and look forward to working with colleagues to transform NHS Supply Chain’s commercial capabilities and support the NHS and its patients by simplifying what is a complex healthcare supply chain.”
Richard joins from an executive leadership role at Proxima and years of experience across the retail, financial, manufacturing and pharmaceutical sectors.
NHS Supply Chain’s chief executive, Andrew New, added: “I’m delighted to welcome Richard to our executive team. His role is key to supporting the delivery of our ambitious strategy of growth and savings delivery, as we align to the changing needs of the NHS.”
Andrew also thanked the outgoing interim commercial executive director, Bilal Shaykh, for helping to lead the organisation through a “period of extraordinary change”. Bilal had been in the role since last October.
Richard will officially start his role at NHS Supply Chain from 29 April 2024.
