A new NHS trust has launched in London following official approval from health secretary Wes Streeting.
The new trust – North London NHS Foundation Trust – marks the merger of two mental health trusts at the start of this month. They are:
- Barnet, Enfield and Haringey Mental Health NHS Trust
- Camden and Islington NHS Foundation Trust
NLFT says it has huge ambitions for the new organisation and aims to bring together the best of both the old organisations.
A trust statement read: “Our commitment is that we will continue to work closely with our service users, carers, our staff, Governors and local partners, to help us achieve our Vision of ‘Better Mental Health, Better Lives and Better Communities’ for local people. We are convinced that our new NLFT will help us in providing great care for those we serve and in providing great places to work for our staff.
“We are grateful to everyone internally and externally for their support in helping us to get to this point and we look forward to delivering improved services for local people across North London as the new North London NHS Foundation Trust.”
The news follows other mental health moves in London, including Maudsley Charity CEO Rebecca Gray being appointed the new director at the NHS Confederation’s mental health network.
Wider mental health news includes Catherine Vichare being appointed St Andrew’s Healthcare’s new nursing director following more than two decades in the mental health sector.
Chancellor Rachel Reeves took aim at mental health waiting times in her recent budget speech, noting that 350,000 people have been waiting a year for such services.
Before her speech, the Centre for Mental Health’s CEO, Andy Bell, called on the chancellor to turn the tide on mental health.
